STEAM Education Development Programme of the GMMDC

Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics (STEAM) education in the era of 4IR emphasizes a multidisciplinary

approach that is aimed at creative problem-solving in real-life settings. This approach is aligned with global trends in education and is seen as an important innovation for skills development for the future workplace. In response to these trends, the GMMDC has, since 2017, integrated  STEAM approach to deliver its  Mathematics and Physical Sciences development projects in schools.

The Centre also offers its STEAM development programme as two separate but complimentary projects

The first project is the hosting of STEAM activity workshops with learners and  teachers at project schools that focus on the promotion of critical thinking as part of practical problem-solving. Activity themes include geometric, engineering and playful coding challenges. Creative connections between Mathematics and Art are also showcased and demonstrated.
The second project involves the hosting of Provincial STEAM Education Seminars for in-service MST teachers in public schools. These professional development events aim to motivate and equip in-srvice educators with examples of best practices for teaching and learning in STEAM fields.
