M-Learning Support Project

MobiTutorZA App Support

As part of its hybrid techno-blended approach to STEM education, the GMMDC has developed innovative mobile applications to support the teaching and learning of CAPS-aligned Mathematics and Physical Sciences in schools.

The offline Android MobiTutorZA software, integrated within the GammaTutor app, provides CAPS-aligned Mathematics and Physical Sciences resources for self-directed learning across all grades, with no data costs. This app supports the GMMDC’s TAPS learner projects and is pre-installed on tablets for selected Mathematics incubator project learners. It offers accessible, high-quality content, including lessons, structured self-assessments with feedback, exam revision materials, multi-language support, soft skills development, and more. Additionally, the online web version of MobiTutorZA further enhances learner support for self-directed learning. Particularly MobiTutorZA also offers  mock exams for Grade 11 and 12 Mathematics, offering online scoring and automated feedback to prepare students for formal external examinations.

The GMMDC has also developed an innovative GeoGebra applet series for CAPS Mathematics across all grades. These applets are accessible online via hyperlinks or QR codes, with offline access available through specialized Android & Windows applications for project teachers and learners.

GeoGebra for Innovative Pedagogical Practice (GIPP)

The GIPP project aims to provide GeoGebra skills development and innovative mobile Mathematics teaching and learning opportunities for teachers and learners.

Over the past decade, GeoGebra, an open-source dynamic graphics software for Mathematics and Science, has served as a valuable free online educational support platform, used by a vibrant global community of millions of STEM educators and students. The GMMDC, home to a local GeoGebra chapter, has delivered numerous webinars and training programmes locally and nationally to promote GeoGebra adoption among in-service Mathematics teachers, enhancing their classroom practices.

The Centre recently developed an innovative interactive  series of GeoGebra Mathematics applets tailored to the CAPS curriculum and optimized for mobile phone screens. These applets, easily shared via social media, support teachers in integrating technology into their classrooms and enable self-directed mobile learning for learners after school hours.

Offline applications for Android and Windows OS, containing the Mathematics applet series for FET and SP school phases, have also been completed. Sample applets for each category are shared below for access.
